NEXUS, Visions Lighting, and Invasion Del Corrido!

Invasion Del Corrido has been out rocking the NEXUS 4×4 LED pixel mapping panels from CHAUVET Professional, bringing magic light to their already musically magic show!  Check it out!!!

LOS ANGELES – (For Immediate Release) – Latin music is as richly diverse, complex and enthralling as the cultures that gave it to the world. From Latin pop to Tejano and mariachi, this broad musical genre covers a range of emotions; so too do the reggae and created reggaeton sounds of Jamaica. The combined emotional power of these two rich musical forces was on full display at the Staples Center during the sold out Invasion Del Corrido concert.
Keeping pace with the swirling passion, color and intensity of the music on stage was a dynamic lighting design created by LD Brandon Dunning of Visions Lighting (Brea, CA). At the heart of Dunning’s design was a series of truss structures energized by incredibly bright pixel mapped Nexus 4×4 LED panels from CHAUVET Professional.

Dunning used 20 of the Nexus panels controlled with an ArKaos LED Mapper. (He ran the rig using a grandMA 2 Light Console.) Eight of the Nexus panels were hung inside a 30’ x 25’ upstage circular truss structure. The other 12 Nexus units were arranged three each on the four 10’ truss towers that accented the stage.

By displaying pixel mapped breakout patterns on the Nexus panels and varying the intensity of their output (he ran a mixture of 110v and 208v), Dunning was able to reflect the diverse range of musical moods in light. “The Nexus panels are very versatile fixtures, so they allow you to cover a range of moods and images,” he said. “A lot of different artists performed at Invasion Del Corrido and we wanted to create a lightshow that supported each of them.

“As far as pixel mapping was concerned, I used a lot of media that had lines and color changing, along with some high DEF media loops,” continued the LD. “Running the same patterns on all of the truss hung Nexus panels really tied the whole stage together and created an engaging look for the audience.”

Dunning also praised the intense output of the Nexus fixtures. “At key points in the program, we unleashed the Nexus units as blinders,” he said. “It was very impressive. You don’t have to run these fixtures at full output to get brightness at this level. Everyone loved the way our design looked.”

Aside from relying on high performance products, Dunning credits his team with making Invasion Del Corrido’s lighting design a success. “We benefited from the great video work done by Jairo Ortiz. All of us were excited working on this project; when you hear the passion in the music it’s hard not to get excited.”

ROGUE, Pro Systems, and the San Diego Padres!

ROGUE in the news!  We’re finding that people absolutely LOVE going ROGUE!!!  Check out a great story from San Diego, with the one and only San Diego Padres!

    San-Diego-Padres-rogue-hybrid1

SAN DIEGO – Power was the name of the game as the San Diego Padres pounded the World Series-champion San Francisco Giants 10-2 on April 11 during their 2015 Home Opening Series. But the 20 hits off the bats of Padres sluggers weren’t the only pyrotechnics on display at Petco Park that Saturday night; the 42,823 fans in the stands were treated to a post-game laser lightshow with some punchy effects provided by 12 Rogue RH1 Hybrid fixtures from CHAUVET Professional.

San Diego-based Pro Systems, which designed the lightshow, had recently added the Rogues to its inventory. A compact hybrid spot/beam moving head with 13 colors and gobo and prism effects, the Rogue RH1 Hybrid boasts an impressively intense output for its size: 170,000 lux at 15 meters at a 2.5° beam angle. Pro Systems had broken out the Rogues at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami several weeks earlier, but the company knew the Chauvet fixtures would be put to the test lighting up a venue the size of a major league ballpark.

    San-Diego-Padres-rogue-hybrid2

“It was a real challenge to fill up a space as large as Petco Park,” said Brad Donaldson of Pro Systems. “We were contacted by the Padres a year ago about putting together a show of this type, but it just never came together. So they reached out to us again this year because they wanted a laser lightshow as part of their Opening Week festivities.”

The challenge of illuminating such an immense space was compounded by the need to position fixtures in spots where they wouldn’t obstruct the sight line of fans. Pro Systems ultimately decided to set up rigs containing lasers and moving lights at seven carefully chosen locations around the stadium’s perimeter. From these seven vantage points, the company was able achieve coverage of the entire field, and Donaldson credits the Rogues with playing a major role in this accomplishment.

“We used the Rogues in Beam Mode and we were definitely impressed with their output,” he said. “We also used some of their gobo and prism effects on the field, and it was quite remarkable how they cut through everything and looked so bright and good, especially in such a big space.”

The 18-minute lightshow featured a soundtrack developed by Pro Systems, along with some San Diego-themed video clips which were intermingled with the lighting effects to “provide breaks for us to reset (the lights) and build up again,” said Donaldson. He added that the show went off extremely well, both with fans and the team’s management: “Looking around during the show you could tell people were having a good time. The Padres themselves said they got a lot of positive feedback from fans. In fact they said people liked it so much, they wanted to get another date on the calendar this year to do it again.”

Local newscasts, community access stations and corporate studios also are calling on Chauvet to provide reliable, quiet and cost efficient LED video panels, key lights and other solutions for broadcast applications. Here are just three examples:

    WSVN Miami

Florida’s most prolific news department adds extra impact and flexibility to its bi-level studio with 120 PVP S5 panels.

    wsvn

We added the Chauvet panels, because our executive management decided they wanted something big that could help tell stories… these panels look great on camera; a big part of it is the high refresh rate.

    Taunton Community Access and Media

Designer Jonathan Lipsy turns to Ovation for key lights and wash lights that illuminate the set and the talent on it without spilling over into background panels.

    taunton

Focus and control were a big concern that led me to select the Ovation LED fixtures. I needed a fixture that could throw a narrow beam of light, while having the capability of being dimmed very low without flickering or cutting out at the lower levels.

    EMC Studio

Integrated Solutions Group creates a freestanding video studio in the middle of a corporate warehouse with help from Ovation fixtures.

Looking for an LED fixture that was powerful, less expensive and had proper quality of light, I chose the ChauvetOvation line of LED fixtures.

Steve Lieberman’s YUMA TENT Design, with NEXUS, at COACHELLA!

Steve Lieberman, EDM’s lighting rockstar, has created another amazing experience for the Coachella crowd using NEXUS Aw 7×7 from CHAUVET Professional!  Check it out!

    CHAUVET-Professional-Nexus-Aw7x7

INDIO, CA – With 163 acts serving up an array of great music from rap to pop to EDM to classic rock and a plethora of other styles, Coachella has aptly been described as a “forest of festivals.” Dedicated techno house heads and dance music fans had no trouble finding their way through this musical forest at the 2015 version of the festival. They headed straight for the Yuma Tent, where house bumping heavyweights chugged away for hours on end in an eye-popping DJ Booth set off by a swarm of pixel mapped Nexus Aw 7×7 LED panels from CHAUVET Professional.

Lighting designer Steve Lieberman of SJ Lighting arranged 47 of the Nexus Aw 7×7 panels in front of the DJ booth to create a video surface that lent a club look to the performance area. The LD also deployed over 100 other high output fixtures throughout the tent, positioning moving beams in the upper sections of the ceiling and strobes along its rim. He also placed six giant mirror balls across the spine of the tent ceiling and a disco shark designed by Kevin McHugh in the center. The end result was a tent interior that had all of the mind searing energy of a Las Vegas nightclub.

“We gave the tent the look and feel of a club, which made it a unique spot in the festival,” said Lieberman, who has designed many of the most famous and critically acclaimed nightclubs in the world. This made sense, since the Yuma Tent has been a paradise for club fans since it was introduced to Coachella in 2013.

For much of the time during the festival, Lieberman ran his own lighting rig at the Yuma Tent with a grandMA Series 2 console. “I love this music and I love being involved on a hands-on level in lighting it,” he said. “I enjoyed working with the Nexus Aw 7×7 because of its output and super sharp beams. It also allowed me to get the kind of incandescent glowing look that contributes to a club atmosphere, but at the same time it’s an LED fixture with all the good stuff that entails. Plus it’s very versatile when you pixel map it.”

This versatility was very much on display at the Yuma Tent. Lieberman used the panels to display breakout video patterns at key points during the different performances, in addition to having panels work as lighting effects and as marquee tickers to display text. “Versatility is key in an event like this, because you have so many artists taking their performances in so many different directions,” said Lieberman.

Indeed, the renowned LD navigated his lighting rig through some astounding musical twists and turns at Coachella as a full array of club music artistry was on display inside the Yuma Tent, including old-school three-hour back-to-back sets from icons Danny Tenaglia and Carl Craig, who dropped an unforgettable remix of Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams. On the other side of the spectrum was the hard mechanical experimental house chugging of the UK’s Jon Hopkins. Through it all Lieberman’s rig kept pace, providing the crowd with a complete club experience in the middle of Coachella.
